My exchange felt rather different from the typical university exchange; it was more of a travelling abroad and independent living experience. There were definitely pros and cons but I made the most out of this amazing opportunity and in return received a valuable and life changing experience. My university abroad program is a new exchange partner with Ryerson. The program had a very small group of exchange students and rarely had any exchange events or gatherings. Under these circumstances I did not make friends from the exchange group but instead got to make great friends from out of school as well as from my internship in London. The fashion program at the University of South Wales was not as challenging compared to Ryerson but they do push for more of your own creativity. I was enrolled in one class which I attended twice a week. The main project for this class was to make 2 garments, an interactive portfolio and presentation. To give myself more of a challenge and further my education, I moved to London where I took on an internship working full time for a fashion designer. My biggest take away from this experience is you can make anything happen if you strive for it hard enough. My time in London has made me a stronger and more independent individual. My advice for future exchange students is to stay open-minded because this way you will be able to learn and discover many new things about yourself.
