My capstone, Adsposure, looks at how advertising has been a mode of connecting products or services to people for centuries. Successful advertising aims to impact and create a lasting effect on the viewer, no matter the mode or medium that it is displayed in. My topic will be discussing and analyzing successful creative advertisements spanning from late 1950’s to 2015 by understanding their success from a standpoint of how the idea and representation of these advertisements moved, how it was creatively relevant to driving the success of the brand or campaign, and what the factors of spreadability was found in the advertisement. My main questions that I will be uncovering through the study, is asking if an advertisements success can be linked to the creative process in which it is made. Moreover, how does creativity within advertisements lend itself to creating a successful representation of a product or service? I will also be looking to understanding how these different advertisements say and represent our society in a larger picture through the prominent methodology of a semiotic analysis. My creative component is a documentary called “Adsposure: Crafting Advertisements”, where industry professionals from brands such as Rouge Advertising, Blade Branding, Blueband Advertising, Ariad, and The Metrick System are interviewed to understand from an educated and professional background how creativity effects and impacts advertisements.
